Good idea, or great idea?
I am in Denver currently and plan on travelling through the southwest & up the west coast. I am looking for rad folks/punks to hang out with and places to crash. I’m low maintenance houseguest (respectful of boundaries, clean up after myself & cook often). Cities I will be going through:
Santa Fe, NM
San Francisco/Bay Area, CA
Alternatively, if anyone is travelling in that direction and is looking for someone to hitch with please let me know (I’ve hitched in Canada but don’t want to hitch solo in the US). I don’t have a phone but have internet access sometimes, and my email is firstname.lastname@example.org
If you have a lot of followers please reblog this ‘cause I don’t!
hey everyone, my bud ryley is traveling around the states and you should totally hang out with them. they’re one of my favorites. seriously, i totally vouch for how awesome they are.
The situation in Montreal where someone was arrested for posting a photo of anti-cop street art on Instagram is not simply because they ‘slipped up’ or because of an overcautious police force: this is business-as-usual for the state in its surveillance of communications technology used by insurgents/criminals.
I gotta be real here because lately I’ve heard about friends posting really dumb shit in places where they also post photos of themselves, and which are connected directly to their personal devices. If you’re more concerned with internet posturing and sketchy photoshoots than you are about keeping yourself and your friends safe, you need to rethink your priorities or stop endangering everyone around you.
Basically, when it comes to posting on the internet:
- The internet and the phone aren’t safe. There are processes and programs to make them safer, but if you’re not going to learn and implement them at all times, you gotta be really fucking careful about what you post.
- This isn’t just about you. You have a responsibility to the people around you. If you’re not up to no good, maybe someone you communicate with is. By being lax about security, you’re putting them at risk. That’s fucked.
- Don’t talk about sketchy stuff on the internet or over the phone EVER EVER EVER.
- Any photos taken with a digital camera contain hidden metadata that gives the specifics of your camera, time taken, and sometimes geolocation. There are exif data removal tools to erase this data. Use them.
- Ask people before you take their picture and before you put it online.
- And don’t be an asshole to people who have different security protocols than you have. It’s not ‘just paranoia’ when the state is using internet posts and computer files to arrest and imprison your friends.
Those are just some basics for posting personal things online or taking photos of things/people. There are more and deeper issues at hand that folks should consider.

Just when we thought it was over….
We have some bad news to report. This morning Daniel was taken into custody by federal marshals and is now at the federal detention center in Brooklyn getting processed.
We are still waiting to hear why this has occurred. Considering his exemplary behavior at the halfway house, approved weekend passes and the full-time job he started as soon as he was released back to the city this is all pretty insane. The Bureau of Prisons has proven to be cruel and vindictive time and time again.
Anyway, what YOU can do right now is write to Daniel and send your love! We don’t know how long he will be here, but there is a good chance it will be until his sentence officially ends on June 5.

Join us for a discussion with feminist and anti-capitalist activist Silvia Federici, a veteran of the Wages for Housework campaign and author of Caliban and the Witch: Women, the Body and Primitive Accumulation.
Federici will discuss her most recent book Revolution at Point Zero: Housework, Reproduction, and Feminist Struggle (PM Press 2012), a collection of texts written between 1975 and 2010. In this talk she will specifically address social reproduction in an era of globalized capitalism providing a feminist and autonomous Marxist analysis of the ongoing recolonization and decimation of much of the planet. As outlined in Revolution at Point Zero, this process fosters a permanent crisis of reproduction and survival. As women continue to bear the brunt of this onslaught, Federici puts forth a vision of the commons as a site of resistance.
